Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alpha-10 (A10... don't ask me why I chose this name) is a shoot'em up where
you control one of the galaxy's most advanced space fighters on a mission
to... well, basically blow up your enemies. Your hi-tech ship contains the
following "revolutionary" features: a double barelled laser cannon (less
exciting than it sounds, heheh), an internal store of "smart" bombs, and the
world's first rechargable shield*. Use these weapons wisely and you will be
able to triumph through the three individual worlds and 12 levels in this
first version of the game. Use them foolishly and you will die a million
deaths, or just get bored and walk away.

*: rechargable shield is not available during the first few missions. They
hadn't invented it yet is my excuse.

Storyline (you don't have to read this to start... oh, but please do)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three centuries ago, the galactic council, which was responsible for peace
and order throughout the galaxy, was overthrown by the evil forces of... I
dunno, "some guy". Ever since, order and stability has been threatened. Your
people have lived peacefully on your home planet of Arctus for many eons,
blissfully unaware of the turmoil that was raging all around you.
Finally, the day that the evil forces reach your home world has arrived.
A base has been set up near the southern magnetic pole, and scout ships have
been deployed to determine the extent of the human habitation of the area.
Fighters are aleady being primed to scour the surface of your world and
destroy anything that they find. Your people have but one hope... a new
prototype fighter: the Alpha-10.
Aware that there is no other way, you are given complete authority to use
this awesome weapon to turn back the evil forces threatening your land. You
begin by checking the integrity of your city's perimeter. Having found light
scout ship activity, your goal is to then eliminate a substantial number of
these invaders in order to clear the way for an attack on one of their nearby
encampments. Now that your goal is clear, you must make your way through the
barrage of defenses before you can strike at the heart of their base. Full
turbo thrusters on, you dart into their base's storage area at lightning
speed. By destroying half of their storage silos, you cripple the main attack
force, and bring safety to your land. The fight is not over yet, though.
After the raid, whilst searching through the debris, you find secert
documents which indicate that the encampment you had eliminated was in actual
fact not the enemy's main base; it was, apparently, an energy plant, which
directly powers the external defenses of their main base. Further study of
the documents also reveals the location of the enemy's primary fleet in deep
space.
Your goal is now clear. Your destiny awaits you. Destroy the main enemy
base on your planet and then stab at the very heart of the evil forces by
eliminating their primary fleet, and thereby free the galaxy of its
enslavement.

Oh, and you discover that the evil "guy" is actually your father and that
it is his plan to eventually convert you to the way of his evil force... but
that's another game altogether.

What you'll need to bring the world everlasting peace.

o a TI-82 calc
o CrASH v1.5
o some way to get this thing onto your calc:

o a calc-calc cable and someone with CrASH and atenv1b on their calc

How to bring the world everlasting peace.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the game starts, press ENTER to play or CLEAR to quit to your shell.
You will then be prompted to enter your name. Use the up/down arrows to
change the letter, and left/right to accept the letter or backspace,
respectively. Press Enter to save the name; you will not be able to change it
unless you restart.
You will then be presented with the briefing screen. Here your name, score
and the goal for your next mission are displayed. At the bottom, your current
location and mission name are shown. Here, you can press:
        Enter: Play the current mission
        Clear: Exit to shell
Mode: Restart. Your score is cleared, and you are sent back to the
first mission of the first world. You must reenter your name.

  Your in-game controls are:
Arrow Keys: Move your fighter around the screen. Can press two keys
                        at once to move diagonally
2nd: Fire your lasers. Every time you fire, your energy is
depleted slightly; this will recharge. You can hold
down 2nd but your energy will run out quickly.
Mode: Deploy SmartBomb. All enemy ships suffer damage equivalent
to 5 laser hits. This is enough to destroy most ships
                        you will encounter.
Enter: Pause Game. The screen shows your score, number of lives,
number of smartbombs and how many more kills you need
to make in order to achieve the set goal for the
level. When paused, you can press + or - to increase
or decrease the contrast, respectively. Press Enter
                        to return to the game.
Clear: Quit level. Returns you to the briefing screen as though
                        you had failed the mission.

You are given a limited number of lives with which to complete each level.
If you do not, the points you acquired during the level are removed, ie.
you restart with the same number of points as you had before you attempted
and failed the mission. If you get to the end of the level, but have not
managed to fulfil the goal set, the mission is considered to have been failed.
Goals are simply of the form: destroy x ships/buildings.

Notes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are no known bugs at this time, however the following are potential
problems.
o Enemy ships can appear on top of each other. What this means is that you
see only one ship, but there are actually two or more at the same place.
o Ships larger than 8x8, when destroyed, generate the same small explosion
     as 8x8 ships.
o The background rocks in outer space, could be confused for enemy shots.

I have no intention of fixing these things unless I get a response from
people who would like to see some changes made. I am open to any suggestions
and urge anybody who feels that there should be be alterations made to
contact me at my email address listed at the beginning of this document.

Alpha-10 is freeware, not public domain software. If you wish to alter the
code or copy sections for your own programs please contact me and credit me
for the code used.
